Just A Start Tax Help Clinic

Just A Start Tax Help Clinic

The JAS Tax Help Clinic is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, run in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Boston Tax Help Coalition (BTHC). We prepare tax returns completely free of charge for qualifying taxpayers. Qualifying taxpayers generally make less than $56,000 and live in the Greater Boston Area. Certain tax situations may be “out of scope” for a VITA site, meaning we cannot do the return, and would refer you to other services. If you are unsure about if you qualify, please email iandavis@justastart.org or call 617-918-7525.

Tax Services

Due to the high number of COVID cases presently in the Boston area, we only offer drop-off and pick-up service. No appointment needed!

This means you will come to one of our locations during our open hours, complete Form 13614-C intake sheet if you haven’t already, and digitally sign Form 14446 Virtual VITA/TCE Taxpayer Consent. We will then conduct a short interview about your intake sheet, scan your documents, and you will leave. We complete your return, and either call you to come back and sign out, or you can sign out digitally through secure file-sharing with an email.

What to Bring:

Your tax documents
Photo ID for the primary taxpayer
Physical Social Security cards for anyone on the return
A completed Form 13614-C Intake Sheet (optional)

We will not have face-to-face tax preparation until the new cases per day rate drops below 25 (out of orange and into red) in Middlesex County, Suffolk County, or Essex County. Please check this tracker for the latest numbers:
